What happens in a 4 Hands Massage

  1. Meeting both practitionersYou meet both practitioners before you begin. They ask about pressure once, between them, so you are not answering the same questions twice, and agree between themselves who starts where on you.
  2. The first few minutesThe opening minutes feel strange in a good way. Four hands arrive at once and your attention tries to follow all of them. Most guests give up tracking the movements fairly quickly.
  3. Mirrored movementMuch of the session is symmetrical. Both practitioners work the same stroke on either side of you at the same speed, which is what makes the treatment feel enveloping rather than merely busy.
  4. Breaking the symmetryAt points they deliberately separate. One stays with your shoulders while the other works your feet. Losing the pattern is the part that tends to switch off the thinking, planning part of you.
  5. A single endingThe strokes draw back together and lift away at the same moment. Then the room is quiet and you are alone in it. Stay exactly where you are for a while before sitting up.

Who 4 Hands Massage suits

  • Suits you if your mind usually stays busy through a massage and you would like it given something to do.
  • A good choice for a milestone, or for when an ordinary hour of massage no longer feels like quite enough.
  • If unfamiliar sensations put you on edge, the Swedish Massage follows one pair of hands throughout instead.
  • If you want firm, specific work rather than an immersive session, the Deep Tissue Massage is the better booking.

Should you choose the shorter or the longer session?

Two practitioners cover ground quickly, so even the shorter session reaches most of you. What it does not always allow is the settling. Choose the longer session for the stretch where you stop noticing the individual hands, since that is the reason most guests book this rather than a single practitioner.

What to tell your practitioner

Tell your practitioners whether you would like matched pressure on both sides, since people are rarely even. Mention any ticklishness, and any area you would rather only one of them worked on. Say if being touched in two places at once is new to you, and they will build up to it slowly.
